Spa and Pilates studio design: what to plan for

Wellness spaces are judged on how they feel. Calm arrival, comfortable change rooms and well-planned studios depend on practical decisions about plumbing, ventilation, sound and storage made early in design.

Arrival and reception

Plan check-in, waiting, retail display and storage for client belongings. A custom reception desk and display can set the tone while hiding technology and supplies.

Change rooms and washrooms

Showers, washrooms and change areas affect plumbing, drainage and ventilation, so locate them with the existing services in mind. Consider privacy, accessibility, lockers and durable, easy-to-clean finishes.

Studios and treatment rooms

Pilates studios need clear floor area, ceiling height and space for reformers and equipment storage. Treatment rooms need privacy, sound control, hand-washing and lighting that can be dimmed.

Flooring, acoustics and ventilation

Choose flooring for the activity, wet areas and cleaning. Plan acoustic separation between rooms and from neighbouring tenants. Humidity, heat and air changes need input from mechanical professionals.
