Design detailing for commercial interiors

Design detailing turns a broad concept into more specific decisions about how materials and elements meet. It helps communicate the intended appearance and coordination needs of custom millwork, fixtures and interior finishes.

Focus on the interfaces

Look at where cabinetry meets a wall, a counter meets a support, or lighting meets a display. Record finish transitions, visible joints, edges and access points. These interfaces often involve more than one trade, so confirm who provides each part and which information remains unresolved.

Use the right view for the question

Plans communicate arrangement; elevations show faces; sections and enlarged details explain relationships that a general view cannot. Dimensions, material references and hardware information should be coordinated so drawings do not leave contradictory instructions. Site dimensions still need verification by the responsible team.

Review appearance and practical use together

Consider cleaning, wear, replacement and maintenance access alongside the visual intent. Samples or mock-ups can help resolve selected questions before an element is made. They do not replace structural, code or specialist review where those are needed.

Where the consultant fits

Consultony supports design development and fabrication-minded detail coordination, working with reputable contractors and fabricators. The agreed scope should distinguish consultant advice, professional documentation, shop drawing preparation and production responsibilities. Bring the concept drawings and a list of details that need resolution.
